It doesn’t always cover emergency vet fees and certainly not routine treatments like vaccinations etc, waste of money.
depends on the policy-
like human policies they have varying degrees of insurance, AND premiums (for a kittien it has to be cheap), and levels of coverage.
In my opinion pet insurance isn’t worth it. An average indoor cat actually does not need vaccines or fixed unless you want them to be. An indoor/outdoor cat should get at least the first vaccines and boosters and be fixed. Other than accidents or illnesses you really don’t need to take them often. We try to keep a kitty accident fund with about 1000 in it for emergencies and keep a credit card with a good amount on it that can be charged. You may never have to use it.
I too feel that pet insurance is bit off a rip off. I have 7 cats a few years and the number of times I have taken them to the vet costs less than what insurance premiums would cost and this includes 1 eye operation. However a serious health problem can be very costly so it depends how important your pets are to you. Maybe you would be better off putting x amount aside per week or month and save up a vet emergency fund, that’s what I do.
Yep, definately get it! My dog had a very expensive op and we would be broke without it! Yh if its over a certain amount, your covered for everything! Good luck with your kitten!
Its worth getting it as my friend did for his cat and the cat broke his leg, the pet insurance paid up the £600 vets bill without questions, they also cover any illnesses your cat may have and pay for the treatment as well as tests, but do not cover vaccinations ect.
Recently I’ve been looking into getting pet insurance and the policies on offer vary greatly. None of them cover routine vaccinations or spaying/neutering. Most of them have an excess of £60-£75 per claim, so any vet bills under that you’d end up paying for yourself. Some will only cover the cost of treating certain medical conditions such as diabetes, kidney failure, cancer etc. for up to 12 months and a certain value. Whilst more expensive premiums will cover those conditions for the cat’s lifetime regardless of cost. Very few insurers seem to cover dental treatment, and those that do stipulate that your cat must have annual dental checks. Another thing to bear in mind is that not all insurers pay the vet direct. A lot of them expect you to pay for the treatment and then claim it afterwards.
Some vet bills can be very expensive and none of us know for certain how our financial circumstances may change in the future. So insurance does offer peace of mind. However, if you can trust yourself to put away £20 every month towards your kitten’s medical fund, hopefully you should have enough money saved to cover any costly medical emergencies. I did that for my previous cat and thankfully never needed to use the money once in her 19 year lifetime. When she needed dental surgery and medication for CRF I could afford to pay for that without dipping into her “emergency” fund.
Whether you decide to get insurance or not, a credit card solely for vet emergencies is always handy to have.
Yes it is pet insurance is very important thing to have. It is one of those things you hope you never need but are glad you have it when you do. Different insurance covers different amount and you have to pay a excess like in any insurance. They don’t just cover vets bill. They don’t cover routine things like vaccinations. But they cover any illness or injury. Some people believe it is a waste of money but if you pets has a accident or serious illness bills can run into the thousands and you are glad you have it then you can’t see in to the furture and see if you pet will need it. Each insurance company ahve diffrent rules on what and how much they cver so you need to looking it to that. the best is Pet Plan but they are also the most expensive but they are the only ones who cover any illness of injury for the life orf the pets. The next best are Morethan , Buddies and Marks and spencer they cover for any amount not a time the other cover for a mount and a year no longer. We have are dogs and cats insuranced and have need it several times.
