I purchased an earlier version of this cat flap but my cats found it very easy to move the slide mechanisms. However, when the flap broke I had no choice but to replace it with another Cat Mate as other brands are not the same size and fit.
Having consoled myself, that at least there wouldn’t be a gaping hole in the door, imagine my surprise when I realised that the design of the slides has been vastly improved to the point that I even found it difficult, at first, to move the slides. You now need to push the slide down and then move the slide along to the desired position. (It helps if you read the instructions!). The slides are most certainly tamper-proof as it says on the box (tin).
I thoroughly recommend this product, even if you have tried similar in the past.

We are using this in conjunction with a Sureflap (microchip reading catflap) to help manage having a mother cat who goes out and a kitten who doesn’t yet go out. We replaced a much simpler version of Cat mate catflap (locked or unlocked settings only), and it fitted the hole perfectly. My only criticism is that the magnet is quite strong and if you have a slightly dim/lazy cat who can’t quite push hard enough, you end up opening the door for her, thus defeating the purpose of having the catflap! Someone needs training…
